WHO WE ARE

Welcome to Nangai Fashions Designer Academy, located in Madurai, where tradition meets innovation in the art of fashion. Founded by Mrs. Mahalakshmi Durairaj, She is having over three decades of creativity, craftsmanship and a passion for empowering women entrepreneurs.

Mrs. Mahalakshmi's entrepreneur journey began as an insurance agent, followed by contract-based candle-making, transforming raw wax into finished products. She self-learned craftwork, glass painting and hand embroidery, starting a small business catering to her neighbours. Her pursuit of learning led her to complete a professional tailoring course in 2010, sparking her passion for fashion design. By 2012, she had learned machine embroidery and in 2015, she earned the prestigious Tamil Nadu Government Authorized Certified Tailoring Trainer designation.

From 2016 to 2017, she trained over 50 women entrepreneurs in tailoring, imparting valuable skills. In 2019, Nangai Fashions began as a small tailoring shop offering personalized stitching services. By 2020, it had expanded into a training institute in same place, nurturing the next generation of skilled women entrepreneurs.

As of 2025, Nangai Fashions operates with 10 machines in a 1,000 sq. ft. facility, focusing on basic to advanced level training programs. Currently, it is the reputed ladies tailoring institute in Madurai. The future vision is exploring franchise opportunities across Tamil Nadu, spreading our mission of sustainable development of women’s life.
